What is Kasm actually for?
Three jobs, one platform. Disposable browsers: open risky links or separate identities in a container that is destroyed on close. Streamed desktops: give a contractor or a traveling you a full Linux desktop in a tab, no VPN client, no software install. App streaming: run one tool, in isolation, on demand.
How much server does Kasm need?
8 GB is the honest floor: the platform itself takes a real slice, and every live session wants roughly 2 GB on top. Two or three concurrent desktops run comfortably on 8 GB; a heavier team sizes up, and the cart meter does that math when you stack it with other apps.
Is Kasm free? What does the license cost?
Community Edition is free for personal use and evaluation, with a 5-concurrent-session limit; Kasm licenses commercial use separately, with paid tiers starting at roughly $5 to $10 per user per month bought directly from Kasm. We install and manage either edition at $0; the license, when you need one, is between you and Kasm.
Can Kasm reach Windows desktops?
Kasm streams Linux containers; Windows enters as a connection target over RDP. Pair your Kasm Cube with a Windows Cloud Cube (Windows Server 2022 and 2025 are in the cart) or point it at a Windows machine you already run, and the desktop shows up in the same browser workspace.

How private are the sessions?
Each session is its own container, destroyed on close unless you persist it, and everything rides your server's HTTPS with authentication from first boot. Pair with WireGuard and the whole workspace can live off the public internet entirely.
What does Kasm hosting cost?
The install is $0 like every app here; the server is the cost, from $26.67/mo for 8 GB on annual billing, management and backups optional. Commercial Kasm licenses are bought from Kasm and priced per user.
Why does Kasm need 8 GB?
Each streamed session is a container running a real browser or desktop; the platform plus a few concurrent sessions is what the floor covers. More users, more RAM, resize as adoption grows.
How many concurrent sessions fit?
Plan on roughly 1.5 to 2 GB per desktop-class session after the platform's share. A 16 GB Cube comfortably runs a small team's daily use.
Is this Kasm Workspaces on a VPS or on shared hosting?
